  1. WE RECENTLY HAD A CLAY BRICK PATIO INSTALLED AND HAD THE CONTRACTOR SEAL THE BRICKS. AT FIRST (A FEW HOURS AFTER THE SEALER WAS APPLIED), THEY LOOKED GREAT. THEN AS A FEW HOURS PASSED, WHITE AREAS BEGAN TO APPEAR. HE SAID HE NEVER SAW ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE, BUT I REMEMBER READING ABOUT IT SOMEWHERE, AND THAT’S WHY I DIDN’T DO IT MYSELF. ANYONE KNOW WHAT CAUSES THIS AND HOW TO CORRECT IT?

  2. I think the sealer brought up the salts and limes plus some efflorescence. Or any of the above. I imagine it may involve an acid wash, then apply the correct sealer. There are abundant sealers made for clay-fired brick.
