No, this is NOT a story from the Al Franken Stuart Smalley character on Saturday Night Live (“and, darn it, people like me!”).
It is about people who remind me of me – and this at my superficial best. This is about work. I recently corresponded with a Toronto landscaper – Bart Flegg – who, with his partner, Alan Sanderson, has developed a serious and ongoing business there, specializing in hardscaping, but which also includes all phases of landscapes, from plants to garden structures and carpentry.
Merlin Construction (website) is the name of the business and I have entered it into my blogroll under “Directories and Resources”.
What appealed to me most about Bart and Alan’s business was their earnestness and their urge to know more. It turns out they are as adventurous as I was when I got underway and they are not afraid to apply the principles of excellence and professionalism to their work. Below is a perfect example of their trademark professionalism.
If I were casting about for someone to do work in that area, I would most certainly give these guys a call. Note also, Bart has begun a blog at that site, lol. Well done! He’s getting the “Instructional Bug”. I know that one well.
Give Bart and Alan a nice long look. I am so appreciative they came to me for some honest questions about making a good landscape construction business work, I found it totally refreshing. I’m a sucker for hard working people.
